This model is definitely going into the “luxury item” category because of its price tag. It usually retails around $200, which makes it more on the expensive side. But you definitely get a quality product that produces a large amount of ice cream at the same time. In fact, this model produces the most ice cream (6 quarts) out of all my recommendations. So obviously, this is best used if you throw a lot of parties or barbecues in your own backyard. It looks absolutely great, and while it might look old-fashioned on the exterior, you’ve got a powerful motor at your disposal. What you get is essentially a straightforward traditional ice cream maker that produces a lot of product.
This particular model uses the ice chip + rock salt approach. Some people who have had experience with this method might cringe at the thought of it. But overall, I’ve never found it to be all that cumbersome although it can get a bit messy to deal with all of that melting ice and rock salt. But it’s really no big deal if you are organized and have all of your containers separate and ready to go. If you’ve never used this method before, it’s definitely different than using a pre-frozen bowl. You basically have to layer your ice with the rock salt in order to create an even cooling effect on the main canister. It’s going to start to melt during the process which is why you have to keep on adding more ice and rock salt. Personally, it’s something I just get used to so it’s no big deal, and it’s definitely worth it as the price to pay for wanting to make 6 quarts of ice cream.
There are minimal parts for this machine and each component does its job perfectly. It’s a well-constructed device that will clearly last a long time if you maintain it properly. Using it is super easy, and it will accommodate all of your favorite recipes well. If you use it consistently or for big family get-togethers, it will eventually pay for itself despite the higher initial price tag.
